Your emotions and feelings aren’t always the easiest thing to control. A lot of times they seem to take control of you. Often all it takes is one mistake, one issue, or one problem to completely de-rail your day.
Trying to figure out and control your feelings can be overwhelming and most likely you will just exhaust yourself trying.
Instead, I invite you to just praise God.
When you feel depressed? Praise God.
When you’re on top of the world? Praise God.
When you’re worried and stressed out? Praise God.
Whatever your circumstance and wherever you may be emotionally I invite you to just praise God. Praise may be a hard thing to do when everything in you doesn’t feel like praising, but if you commit to leading with your praise your feelings will usually follow.
When we praise God, the focus moves from our problem to our God. When that happens we have a fighting chance at winning the battle.
The Psalmist does exactly this when faced with a battle of depression. He begins to question himself asking,
“Why am I discouraged? Why is my heart so sad?” [Psalm 42:5 NLT]
His answer?
“I will put my hope in God! I will praise him again-my Savior and my God!” [Psalm 42:5 NLT]
